Oops! – Adonis Stevenson points out the ‘fake news’ in released Badou Jack fight poster

The clash was confirmed by promoter Yvon Michel for the Bell Centre this week, although one of the artworks doing the rounds contained a distinct mistake.

‘Unification’ was the main title of the bout, which as everyone knows is not the case for Stevenson v Jack.

The latter relinquished his WBA version soon after taking it from Nathan Cleverly as a mandatory bout with Dmitry Bivol was not on Jack or handler Floyd Mayweather’s mind.

Bivol went on to claim the vacant strap, leaving Jack free to challenge Stevenson for the green and gold belt, and leading to Stevenson posting the picture with the words ‘fake news’ in reference to the lack of a second title.

In a bullet-point statement last month, the World Boxing Council moved to outline the mandatory situation which eventually led to Jack getting his opportunity at Stevenson before number one contender Eleider Alvarez.

– Adonis Stevenson request to fight vs former champion Badou Jack.

– Eleider Alvarez reports he has agreed to step aside.

– Marcus Browne Withdraws from fighting the final elimination

– WBC orders Gvozdyk vs Sullivan Barrera as a final eliminator. Barrera withdraws from the fight.

Dec 8 –  The WBC Board of Governors made a new ruling on the division which was:

– Allow Stevenson vs Jack with the winner committed to fight the mandatory next.

– Order Alvarez to fight Gvozdyk for the WBC Interim World title and mandatory challenger position, with the winner fighting the winner of Stevenson vs Jack. Purse bid date January 12 2018.

Jan 10 – Alvarez withdraws from participating in WBC Interim World Championship fight.
