It will occur at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, with a mammoth 80,000 tickets flogged for the event. In most eyes, Joshua is the heavy favorite. However, American Shannon Briggs believes it will be a competitive fight for both men.
“It’s going to a phenomenal fight. It’s a huge boxing fight right now. Parker is such a skilled fighter. He has tremendous fast hands. He can throw a variety of different punches. He’s been born with a great jab, a great right hand, left hook, uppercut, he’s got so many different punches,” Briggs exclusively told World Boxing News.
“But he’s going up against a colossal man in Anthony Joshua. I mean, look at him! He’s a machine. He’s got so much power, and he’s a great fighter. It’s like Godzilla is taking on a mega Godzilla. I’m looking forward to it.”
Asked who he’d back if he had to pick: “The winner has to be the one with the three titles right now, I’d have to favor Joshua, but it’s going to be a close fight,” he said.
Briggs, planning his own comeback trail in the UK, taunted his native Deontay Wilder after claiming the WBC king had turned down the chance to fight him.
“He’s scared of me, champ. He turned down a $2million offer from my team. I got proof. I don’t need to make up stories. I’ve been doing this for 31 years. I know when a man is afraid of me, I can smell it. I was born to do this.”
The ‘Bronze Bomber’ is scheduled to take on Luis Ortiz in his next outing in April in New York on March 3. And the ‘Cannon’ has predicted Wilder to have too much for ‘King Kong.’
“Wilder should be great in that fight. Everything he touches goes to sleep. But then again, so does Ortiz. He’s a friend of mine, and you really can’t count him out.
“At the same time, I don’t want to throw him under the bus, but Wilder has strong momentum. He’s a wrecking ball right now.
“I think he’ll have too much for Ortiz, but after they’ve fought, I want Wilder. He doesn’t like the champ, and the champ doesn’t like him, so let’s get it on. There isn’t no love lost, LET’S GO CHAMP.”
