Juan Manuel Lopez and Jayson Velez collide on March 3

Finally the long awaited encounter between world contender Jayson “La Maravilla” Velez (25-4-1, 17KO’s) and former double world champion Juan Manuel ‘Juanma’ Lopez (35-5, 32KO’s), will be held on Saturday, March 3 at the Coliseo Mario ‘Quijote’ Morales in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

“We are very excited about this great event on Saturday, March 3 in Guayna, ” said the president of Universal Promotions, Javier Bustillo.

Both fighters climbed onto the scale to meet the regulations of the WBC, which stipulates that a month before a title bout should make no more than 15% of the agreed weight (149.5 pounds). Velez and Lopez marked 144.2 pounds.

The clash is a scheduled 12 – round bout for the WBC International and FECARBOX belts, that will be at stake the National Super Feather belt (130 pounds).

 Alberto ‘Transformer’ Mercado (13-1-1, 3 KO’s) will defend his Latino WBC Super Featherweight title against former world contender, Jose “Miau” Nieves (22-3-3, 11 KO’s) in 8 rounds.

Mercado weighed 148 pounds and Nieves stopped the scale at 147 pounds, complying with the regulations of the WBC.

Meanwhile, the honorable Mayor of the Municipality of Guaynabo, Angel Perez, said ” it is a privilege to be given this great event in our town of Guaynabo.
