Recently banned Peter McDonagh pleads with British Board not to punish Amir Khan

Khan v Lo Greco 30/01/2018

Despite being handed a harsh eight-month ban for a push on Shayne Singleton, Peter McDonagh has pleaded with the British Boxing Board of Control not to take any action against Amir Khan.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Khan threw a glass of water at forthcoming opponent Phil Lo Greco before using an aggressive move in a bid to get to the Canadian.

Promoter Eddie Hearn dealt with the kick-off well be standing inbetween the pair and thoughts from some fans then turned to the punishment laid down to McDonagh.

Twitter followers sent messages to McDonagh asking whether he thought Khan should face a similar suspension for his actions, although the Irishman said drama should be part of the build-up.

“There should be no ban for Amir Khan,” replied McDonagh. “He is just trying to sell (the fight). If we don’t get this at a press conference who will be interested in the fight?”

Khan reacted to Lo Greco targetting his private life, much of which has been slapped all over UK tabloid newspapers over the past year.

A recent appearance on an ITV reality show brought the public closer to Khan again and he obviously didn’t appreciate Lo Greco bringing up what now has become old news.

The pair trade blows at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on April 21, and judging by Lo Greco’s early banter, could be quite an interesting run-up to fight night on the Docks.
