Terry Flanagan won’t be content with becoming a two-weight world champion on April 14 when the Manchester man faces fellow-unbeaten contender Maurice Hooker.

‘Turbo’ will participate in a seventh straight world title fight at The O2 Arena in London when Flanagan shares top billing with middleweight ruler Billy Joe Saunders.

In the opposite corner will be Hooker, a highly-rated 28 year-old American whom Flanagan is looking to manoeuvre before a possible two-belt battle with another champion at 140 later this year.

Flanagan said: ‘Hooker is a very good unbeaten fighter, he fights on the back foot and looks to catch you from distance.

“However, I’m very confident I’ll be able to deal with anything he throws at me to become a two-weight World Champion.

“Winning this fight will prove I’m a legitimate 140lb fighter I’ll be looking to unify the belts later in the year.”

Speaking himself on a maiden trip to the UK to face the former lightweight champion, Hooker stated: “‘I’m looking forward to coming to the UK to fight Flanagan and to become World Champion.

“We are both undefeated fighters and I’m sure it’s going to be a fantastic fight!”

Despite having three draws on his record, Hooker is known for his explosive finishing, having stopped 16 of his 23 victims inside the distance – 14 of which came in the first two rounds.

The fight forms part of a massive double-header alongside Saunders’ encounter with Martin Murray to be televised on BoxNation and BT Sport in the United Kingdom.
