WBO World Champion Aleksandr Usyk (90,4 kg) (13-0, 11 KOs) and WBC World Champion Mairis Briedis (90,3 kg) (23-0, 18 KOs) made weight at Friday’s weigh-in ahead of Saturday’s Ali Trophy semi-final at the Arena Riga, Latvia.
“I have the opportunity to unify the belts tomorrow night and I will take it,” said Usyk.
“I am convinced that I will get the victory because I have worked hard for it. I would like to thank all of my fans for showing up today.”
“It’s all about testing myself at the very highest level,” said Briedis.
“This is a great opportunity for me to prove to myself how good I am, to make my family proud and to do this for the people of Riga and Latvia. It is an honour to represent Latvia.”
The winner of the semi-final in Riga will be fighting for the Muhammad Ali Trophy in Jeddah, Saudi-Arabia in May against the winner of next week’s semi-final in Sochi, Russia between Murat Gassiev or Yunier Dorticos.
