WBN have been exclusively informed that Ruqsana Begum has signed a managerial contract with Joe Joyce’s handler Sam Jones and plans to turn professional in the sport.
The 34 year-old, known as ‘The Warrior Princess’, has enjoyed varied successes in her chosen codes, and as Jones explained, Begum feels ready to make her mark under the Queensberry Rules.
“I’m proud to welcome Ruqsana Begum to our stable. As a former kickboxing and Muay Thai world champion, Ruqsana has a great pedigree and I’m sure she can make the transition into boxing,” Jones exclusively told World Boxing News.
“She’s focused on becoming a pro boxer and is looking to win another world title to add to her already glittering career.”
On what it’s taken Begum (who had to keep her career path a secret due to religious beliefs) to get to where she is today, Jones believes one day her story could even make it to the big screen.
“Due to her religious beliefs, she had to train in secret and couldn’t let her parents no she was fighting. She was part of an arranged marriage which made her ill but she came through it all,” explained Jones.
“Her story is incredible and I’m confident a book will be released, maybe even a film about her life. She’s an inspiration and is on the verge of writing yet another chapter,” he added.
What makes Begum’s achievements all the more astonishing is the fact she also suffers from ME, or chronic fatigue syndrome, a long-term illness where the severity of symptoms can range from mild to extreme.
A further announcement on when Begum makes her debut will be made soon.
