Joseph Parker heading to UK as Anthony Joshua finalization looms

Joshua v Parker 13/01/2018

World Boxing News have been informed that WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker is heading to the UK as the New Zealander closes in on an imminent announcement for his unification fight with Anthony Joshua.

Duco are sending a small team, alongside Parker, to follow promoter David Higgins – who flew to London earlier this week to meet face-to-face with Joshua’s handler Eddie Hearn.

Talks have been quite amicable, meaning Parker was happy enough to make the long trip to the UK to take part in a press conference to confirm the fight early next week.

Joshua v Parker is one of the most-sought-after clashes in the top division and will see four versions of the title come together for the first time since Wladimir Klitschko’s reign was ended by Tyson Fury in 2015.

Fury was gradually stripped at the back end of 2015 onwards, fragmenting the belts in what was seen as the best move at the time.

The emergence of Joshua, following his exploits of winning gold at the 2012 London Olympics, meant a real possibility of the championships once again going to one man.

American puncher Deontay Wilder holds the WBC title and will be the next target for whoever comes out on top when Joshua and Parker go head-to-head in the United Kingdom this spring.

Cardiff is the current frontrunner to stage the battle on March 31 at the Principality Stadium.
