WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has been given a suspended jail sentence and ordered to serve 60 hours of community service for possession of marijuana in his native Alabama.

Wilder, 32, was pulled over in his Cadillac last summer and Tuscaloosa Police found a small amount for recreational use after searching his car, initially on a tinted window violation.

The municipal court Judge Ricky McKinney found Wilder guilty on Thursday, along with handing down suspended jail time and two years of probation. The community order will be served at a local YCMA.

Paul Patterson, the lawyer acting on behalf of the world title holder, argued the drug found did not belong to ‘The Bronze Bomber’ as other people had access to the car whilst he was on holiday the week before.

Whatever the full story was, Wilder has been forced to take his medicine – ironically just a short time after marijuana was LEGALIZED in a separate State of his homeland.

Just days ago, California allowed former king Mike Tyson to open a 40-acre farm after regulating cannabis for certain use under a new law.

At 39-0 with 38 KO’s, Wilder is currently the second-rated fighter in the top division and is seeking out a unification with Anthony Joshua for the summer in a bid to unify all the championships on offer.
