Exclusive: Jamie Cox preps for future, eyes March return in world title hunt

Jamie Cox may be coming off a loss to George Groves for his first world title challenge but his drive for another shot at world level is stronger than ever.

When Cox participated in the (WBSS) World Boxing Super Series, he was seen as the dark horse. The tournament raised his profile significantly albeit in losing at the first stage.

Speaking to WBN, Cox stated he will be returning to the ring around March time in a bid to get his career back on an even keel.

“I spoke to Eddie, he always keeps a good relationship and lets you know what’s happening and keeps you in the loop, as well as making sure you’re all on point. We’re looking at the early part of the year and looking for about three fights this year,” Cox exclusively told World Boxing News.

There’s no doubt the big fights are there for Jamie as he eyes another World title challenge at middleweight or super middleweight.

“That’s what I came into the game for, to win world titles, not to just to fight for it and win it but to defend it,” he added.

Looking to correct his wrong, Cox’s passion for boxing is high and the 31-year-old has promised to prepare himself better mentally in the future.

“I like fighting, I love boxing, I just love it, it’s all I know. I’m not shy of anyone, I came into the game to fight these people, that’s what I love, a challenge. I’ve just got to make sure myself that I’m ready, I know I’m there physically ready, I just need to slow it down mentally,” he pointed out.

JAMIE COX vs CHRIS EUBANK JR

Jamie Cox was previously linked with Chris Eubank Jr who fights Cox’s previous opponent Groves next month.

When asked if that was a fight he would still chase he replied “I’m not chasing anyone, I’m just chasing a world title, that’s my goal and plan of action.

“I want to get in contention for that and everyone can see that. If the Eubank fight is there, I’m ready for it, everybody knows that about me, fighting is all I do.”

Cox believes he will be ready for another world title shot in 2018 and regards his last performance as proof of that:

“To be honest I was up on the scorecards three rounds to one against George, I’m more than capable, George was there till the end and he fought very well, it was always going to be a great fight, an aggressive southpaw against an orthodox counter puncher. It was a great fight and George caught me with a great shot,” concluded Cox.
