Top 5 opponents for Amir Khan on April 21

Exclusively breaking the story before any other outlet on Tuesday, WBN have put together a shortlist of the most likely foes for Khan, who is set to fight in the UK for the first time since 2013.

Back then, Khan defeated Julio Diaz in Sheffield as part of a five-fight winning streak eventually ended by Canelo Alvarez in 2016.

The Echo Arena will stage Khan’s comeback clash from what was a crushing KO against Alvarez, with the following five names surely in the frame to be in the opposite corner.

Sam Eggington

If Khan is pushing to fight Kell Brook in the summer, a fight above 147 pounds would be a must. As Eggington has recently moved up from welterweight, the pair could easily agree to an encounter at around 151 pounds in order for Khan to acclimatize to what could be the same weight stipulation against Brook.

Chris Van Heerden

A former opponent of Errol Spence, who is one of Brook’s conquerors and a Khan target, the South African ex-IBO champion would be a solid start for the Bolton man to gauge exactly where he stands in world-class terms. WBN understands ‘The Heat’ could even be the frontrunner at this stage to be in the opposite corner come the spring.

Phil Lo Greco

Another victim of Spence and Brook’s world title foe ‘Showtime’ Shawn Porter, Lo Greco called out Khan in a previous interview with WBN and would be a willing participant with the confidence of claiming victory.

Briedis Prescott

The dream fight for Khan to stage on April 21. The only trouble being the Colombian has lost his last three fights. This possibly would be of no concern to Khan, who would have the opportunity to finally put THAT knockout to bed. Prescott stunned Khan way back in 2008 by catching him cold and taking him out inside a round.

Adrien Broner

Highly doubtful the American would consider a fight on UK soil unless a world title was on the line and there was a considerable purse in the millions to accompany the fight. The pair could meet in the US somewhere down the line, where the clash would make a lot more sense to both boxers.

An announcement is expected from Hearn and Khan in the near future when tickets will also go on sale for what should be an exciting evening on Merseyside.
