EXCLUSIVE: Undefeated Kevin Satchell confirms he has retired at 29

At just 29 years of age, and without a fight since defeating Brett Fidoe in June 2016, former British, Commonwealth and European flyweight champion Satchell has confirmed his boxing career is over.

“I’m retired now. I have no plans to box in the future,” Satchell exclusively told World Boxing News on Wednesday after agonising over the decision for some time.

“I’m just looking forward to my son beginning his career. He’s ten in July so he’ll start having kids gloves the following season.”

On his own plans for the future and whether he’ll take the reins of his son’s career,” Satchell added: “I’ll be going for my amateur coaching license so I’ll still be around the sport but I won’t by my lad’s coach.

“My son will be under my former amateur and professional coach Paul Stevenson so he’s in good hands anyway.

“I’m happy with what I achieved in my career with Paul and I’d like to take this chance to say thanks to the Everton Red Triangle who have looked after me since I was 12. I couldn’t have got where I got without them.

“It’s all about my son now and seeing where he can go with his own career,” said Satchell.

EDWARDS

Satchell put together a seven-bout winning streak when entering the paid ranks before halting fellow Liverpudlian Paul Edwards for the Commonwealth title when fighting under the Frank Warren banner.

A win over Paul’s namesake Chris Edwards followed where Satchell added the coveted Lonsdale belt to his haul before a trio of successful defences led to a European title opportunity which he took against Valery Yanchy in October 2014.

Sadly, Satchell would only fight three more times and gradually be stripped of all his championships before deciding to bow out on a C.V consisting of 16 wins, with 3 KO’s and holding a perfect record to his credit.
