Tyson Fury return could be delayed to May as Anthony Joshua effectively rules out 2018 fight

Despite initially targetting an April return from a two and a half year absence, Fury has now stated it could be May before he eventually trades blows again.

“Fantastic first week in camp, The weight is flying off, I’m more focused and determined than ever. If Anthony Joshua doesn’t have the balls to sign to fight me then I’ll be out in late April or early May. (I) feel like I never left,” said Fury.

To add further misery, Joshua has now backed further away from Fury, even though his rival has stated on more than one occasion that he’d willingly take a fight in his first match-up of 2018.

“That’s (A fight with Tyson Fury) more of a fantasy at the moment,” Joshua told The Daily Mail. “It’s just that he’s not fit and he hasn’t had a fight.

“The ball is in his court. We’ve stayed consistent, we’ve defended the titles we’ve won and we’ve captured more titles.

“If Fury was still fit, we would probably be talking about Fury for March. It’s not me… I’m definitely consistent and ready to fight anyone.”

Instead, Joshua is set to battle WBO ruler Joseph Parker in a further bid to see out the division and add a fourth title to his WBA, IBO and IBF versions.

As ‘AJ’ contemplates gathering more glory, Fury has been linked to facing the likes of Shannon Briggs, David Price and former Joshua victim Charles Martin.

Fury supporters have been eagerly anticipating the lineal champion’s imminent resurgence but may be forced to hang on that little bit longer as ‘2 Fast’ drops more of the excess bulk he added when out of action for some time.
