The new WBA super-middleweight ratings were released for December 2017 recently and feature a host of British contenders pushing to face Tyron Zeuge or the World Boxing Super Series champion.
As second-ranked Chris Eubank Jr. is already vying for the title against super-title holder George Groves next month, the other four will be hoping to set-up a massive all-UK showdown later in the year.
The winner of Groves v Eubank Jr. will likely meet yet another UK star in Callum Smith (barring a massive shock against Juergen Braehmer) leaving the melting pot at 168 simmering on GB shores.
Ranked at four is John ‘The Gorilla’ Ryder, who proved his credentials at the higher limit of 168 against Patrick Nielsen in October, whilst British and Commonwealth ruler Rocky Fielding is somehow placed below his rival at six despite holding a split decision win from earlier in 2017.
At number ten is David Brophy, another Fielding victim on the comeback trail, whilst Zeuge challenger Paul Smith Jnr remains just in the top 15 after losing out on points in Germany.
The World Boxing Association have called on Zeuge to rematch Isaac Ekpo in the coming months before an expected voluntary period will follow.
By the end of 2018, the winner of the World Boxing Super Series, whether it Groves, Eubank or the younger Smith, should be pitted against Zeuge or Ekpo after taking their pick from the following list.
