Loma v Rigo – Undercard results from New York

Loma v Rigo 10/12/2017

Results from Madison Square Garden Theater, New York, USA:

Michael Conlan heard the final bell for the first time in his career as Luis Molina managed to see out the six rounds at Madison Square Garden.

The Irishman fought at a leisurely pace, obviously in a bid to rack up some rounds, and took every session easily on the scorecards.

With sterner tests to come in 2018, Conlan’s points win stands him in good stead for the future ahead of a return to MSG in March.

Shakur Stevenson was in cruise control for a round and a half until his one-sided beating of Oscar Mendoza was finally halted.

The Olympic star and touted future world champion loaded up some hurtful shots and it was apparent only more of the same would follow.

Eventually, referee Sparkle Lee waved off the contest as Stevenson improved to 4-0 with a second career early night.

Christopher Diaz put on a solid display as the Puerto Rican dropped Bryant Cruz numerous times to secure the WBO NABO super-featherweight title.

Diaz had Cruz wobbling on unsteady legs on several occasions and was relentless with his attacks to eventually force a third round stoppage.

In the ESPN opener, former world heavyweight title challenger Bryant Jennings overcame a 44-pound weight difference to dispatch of Don Haynesworth in three rounds.

Jennings is hoping to push himself into championship contention once again in 2018 but will need to up his opposition in order for the main players to sit up and take notice.

The 33 year-old now boasts a record of 21-2 after claiming a twelfth career stoppage.

At featherweight, namesakes Jose and Adan Gonzalez fought out a majority draw over six rounds which will ultimately do either fighter no favors, whilst Mikaela Mayer did enough to see of the seasoned Nydia Feliciano with a majority verdict in just her third pro outing.
