Groves v Eubank Jr: £29.95 Pay-Per-View price? – Pigs might fly!

Groves v Eubank Jr. 23/11/2017

Rumors the recently announced George Groves v Chris Eubank Jr. super-middleweight unification could happen on UK PPV at a price over the usual rate have been shot down.

The World Boxing Super Series semi-final match-up, featuring two of the top British stars around, was confirmed for Manchester Arena on February 17 this week.

Prior to the formal release, social media was awash with speculation the fight would be sold on the Pay-Per-View format for as much as £29.95, although the Sauerland brothers have moved to deny this is the case.

When asked directly during a Twitter Q & A, the @SauerlandBros account clearly stated, ‘pigs might fly’ – rightly confirming that the amount was way above what they would be able to charge.

For their respective quarter-finals, both fighters could be viewed on ITV Box Office for a one-off fee of £9.95, something that could increase slightly but never to as much as treble the usual payment.

Punters probably wouldn’t mind forking out £14.95 for what is being billed as one of the most exciting all-British clashes of recent times, but attempting to push into the Anthony Joshua region may be a stretch too far for the WBSS.

Tickets go on sale this Tuesday when the combatants go through their first press conference to discuss the bout, with fireworks expected right from the off.

Speaking on their battle on Thursday, Groves and Eubank said: “Eubank Jr. has improved over the years but he hasn’t boxed anyone on my level. I came into this World Boxing Super Series as the number one seed, and I will go out as the winner with the Muhammad Ali Trophy.” – George Groves

“As far as I’m concerned, I’m the number one seed and soon people will know why. We have an opportunity to put on a mega fight not only for UK fight fans but for boxing all over the world. I can’t wait, this fight is going to be epic!” – Chris Eubank Jr.

Tickets will be available via eventim.co.uk and WorldBoxingSuperSeries.com with prices starting at £30.
