Oscar De La Hoya has confirmed a rematch between Gennady Golovkin and star fighter Canelo Alvarez will take place at the same venue in the spring of next year.
In an interview with TMZ at his annual Turkey giveaway, the Golden Boy promoter was adamant the fight was done for May 5 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
“We are working on it for Cinco de Mayo next year (May 5, 2018),” said De La Hoya.
“In Las Vegas, same place – T-Mobile (Arena) but that fight is definitely going to happen.
“It’s going to be huge. If people didn’t see the first one, wait until you see the second one,” he added.
Golovkin, the current middleweight king, seemingly defeated Canelo in September of this year, only to be denied the victory by at least one unfathomable scorecard.
Both fighters immediately agreed to meet again, and despite some rumors Texas could host the return, a second fight was always heading back to Nevada.
Fans can now look forward to one of the biggest fights of the year in six months’ time as Canelo bids to claim his first reign as pound for pound king against the current number one fighter in the world.
