Ringside 09/11/2017

“I’M BACK” – Using the two words made famous by Michael Jordan when he came out of retirement – Michael Katsidis announced his entry into the Super8.

A foot injury sustained by Johnathan Tuhu presented an opening and Katsidis swooped. His name adds increased star power to the November 25 event. Katsidis has scaled to the peak of boxing winning two WBO World titles in a decorated career.

“I was born a fighter, I’m still a fighter, this is what I do and now I get to do it again in Toowoomba where it all began for me,” Katsidis said.

“I’ve never backed away from a challenge, this is a challenge and I’m answering the call.

“Young fighters, old fighters, rising stars this tournament has a bit of everything.

“I’m back, November 25 Super8.”

Katsidis has fought all over the World but he will break new ground come November 25. The former two time World lightweight champ has never fought in a three rounder.

His entry adds a huge amount of interest to the event. It adds a lot of intrigue and poses a lot of questions as well.

“Michael Katsidis is unquestionably a World wide boxing star,” Event Promoter Brendon Smith said.

“I have no doubt his addition to the tournament will add extra spice.

“I’m sure every other competitor in the competition will want to draw the name of Michael Katsidis.

“It’s an opportunity many of them possibly wanted when Michael was rising through the ranks, now they could get that chance.

“However I will say be careful what you wish for.

“You now have a man in this tournament that has headlined cards in America, England and the Philippines – he’s also matched it with and beaten some of the greats of the modern era.

“Most notably – he knows how to win.”

The 8 confirmed competitors are:

Jack Asis – former IBO World Champion.
Jamie Hilt – Queensland Welterweight champion
Michael Katsidis – Former two time World champion
Mick Shaw – Former Australian Champion
Ya Jie Ding – Chinese rising star
Luke Woods – Commonwealth Games amateur, 3-0 as a pro
Robert Toomey – Former IBO Oceania Champion
Jason Kanofski – Former Queensland Champion

“It’s a great line up and I’m honoured to be a part of the event,” Katsidis said.

“I give every competitor the respect they deserve – they’re all champions however they better come ready to fight because I want this super8 title.”…
