WBC President meets Deontay Wilder to discuss next move, backs Anthony Joshua unification

Dominic Breazeale defeated Eric Molina over the weekend in what was initially labelled a FINAL eliminator only for the WBC to confirm this wasn’t the case.

Wilder is now free to discuss a clash with any other Top 15 contender in the next WBC ratings list, although Sulaiman opened talks with the American and accepted his wishes to unify the belts next year.

“Deontay Wilder told me last night that he wants Anthony Joshua and asked for the World Boxing Council support. Let’s make it happen!” stated Sulaiman.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn is yet to make firm noise about pitting the 2012 Olympic gold medallist in with a fighter seen as the most dangerous one-punch knockout artist in the world, whilst the WBA have an imminent ruling to make regarding their mandatory spot.

Tyson Fury is also being considered to shed his considerable bulk for a massive all-UK world title bout in the summer but wouldn’t see Joshua any closer to his dream of picking up all the belts on offer.

WBO ruler Joseph Parker is another option for Joshua after his win over Hughie Fury, although could meet the winner of the rematch between Tony Bellew and David Haye in the spring.

That leaves Wilder with possible fights against Dillian Whyte or Breazeale should the ‘AJ’ encounter fail to materialize, unless Parker can be persuaded to negate on his original agreements with Bellew or Haye.

Whatever happens from here on in, Wilder has done his reputation no harm at all with a crushing win over Bermane Stiverne, whilst Joshua took some stick for his performance against Carlos Takama and may want to delay any fight until further down the line.

Let’s hope this isn’t the case moving forward.
