A quite amusing face-off took place in Belfast today as happy Frenchman Renald Garrido once again lapped up the spotlight on a Matchroom Boxing show.
‘The Lion’ is in Belfast to oppose undefeated home fighter Tyrone McKenna for what looks to be a formality result in favor of the Northern Irishman on Saturday night.
Participating in the staredown ritual, the size difference was startlingly apparent between the two as six-foot-plus McKenna, lanky for a super-lightweight, towered above the much smaller Garrido (5ft 6ins).
Garrido couldn’t help but make light of the situation as the 34 year-old contemplates a mammoth task in halting McKenna’s 15-fight unbeaten run in the pro ranks.
Top of the bill is the bantamweight unification between Ryan Burnett and Zhanat Zhakiyanov as the pair put their IBF and WBA belts on the line at the SSE Arena.
Burnett is coming off a career-best win over Lee Haskins over the summer, whilst Ricky Hatton-trained Zhakiyanov dethroned Rau’shee Warren back in February.
The event is live on Sky Sports this Saturday night and features further bouts, Paul Hyland Jnr v Ste Ormond and James Tennyson v Darren Traynor.
Also appearing on the bill are Eddie Hearn prospects Josh Kelly and Anthony Fowler, both of whom are tipped to be future world champions.
