Groves v Eubank Jr: Who’s favorite to win and where may the UK super-fight be staged?

Ringside 17/10/2017

Chris Eubank Jr. is 8/11 with Betway to defeat WBA super-middleweight champion George Groves in the World Boxing Super Series semi-final next year.

Groves setup a domestic superfight with the 28-year-old after an impressive fourth-round stoppage of Jamie Cox in his quarter-final bout on Saturday night, but the leading online bookmaker has priced Eubank Jr. as slim favourite for the all-British thriller given his sensational KO victory over Avni Yildrim a fortnight ago.

Betway also make Eubank Jr. favourite at 7/5 to win the World Boxing Super Series tournament, although he faces stiff competition for the Muhammed Ali trophy from domestic rivals Callum Smith (15/8) and Groves (2/1).

Craven Cottage heads betting to host Eubank-Groves

Despite the fight expected for January/February, promoter Kalle Sauerland has already discussed the possibility of staging the fight at an outdoor venue due to popular demand, and Craven Cottage heads the venue betting at 2/1.

Further down the list of odds, Stamford Bridge remains a contender at 10/1 given Groves’ allegiance to the Blues, whilst the o2 is 5/1 to host yet another historic night of boxing.

Betway’s Alan Alger, said: “George Groves once again showed his class with a 4th round stoppage of Jamie Cox at the weekend, but we still make Chris Eubank Jr. favourite at 8/11 to snatch the WBA super-middleweight title off the Saint when the pair meet early next year.

“The fight promises to be one of the biggest on British soil in recent history, and with a number of venues being considered, it’s Craven Cottage that has emerged as the front-runner at 2/1.

“The WBSS is heating up nicely and whilst the winner of the Groves-Eubank fight is likely to be favourite for the Muhammad Ali trophy, pre-tournament favourite Callum Smith certainly shouldn’t be ruled out at 15/8.”
