Cuban heavyweight Luis Ortiz looks set to lose his opportunity to challenge WBC champion Deontay Wilder following yet another failed drugs test.

‘The Real King Kong’ saw his career under a cloud back in 2014 following a clash with Lateef Kayode, and this second positive sample could be the final nail in his career.

World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman revealed the news from his temporary base in Azerbaijan, where the figurehead is currently residing ahead of the WBC 55th Convention.

“WBC Boxing has received confirmation from VADA that Luis Ortiz has tested positive for a banned substance under the Clean Boxing Program,” said Sulaiman.

A dispute has already been raised from a member of Ortiz’s camp, who says the former WBA ruler is taking medication for his blood pressure.

Whatever the case, Ortiz is ulikely to be allowed to face Wilder on November 4 and a replacement could be sought by promoter Lou DiBella.

Bermane Stiverne, who stepped aside as the mandatory challenger, is due to fight on the same bill and would be the obvious choice to fill in for the headlining clash.

More is set to follow on these breaking developments, which have once again sent shockwaves through the top division.
