ITV 4 will be broadcasting the opening fight of the World Boxing Super Series between the super-middleweights this weekend.
Britain’s Callum Smith will go to war with Sweden’s Erik Skoglund with the WBC Diamond title on the line at the Echo Arena.
One man who has been at the fore-front of the format is half of the Sauerland brothers, Kalle. And the promoter believes the bout between the two will be new territory for both.
“Both guys have never been at this level of opponent. One is the number one in the WBC rankings and the other in the IBF. This is the moment both guys find out what all these years of hard work has been all about with the result on offer at the end.
“You’re going to see fighters who have been built up as the next big thing in both of their countries, so on Saturday night they’re both going to find out what it’s like fighting at this level.
“So, anyone who is making predictions either knows the fighter very well or is very bold,” he stated.
Sauerland’s own in George Groves is also in the tournament and is carrying huge momentum after a sublime performance against Fedor Chudinov earlier this year.
In May, Groves fulfilled his dreams of becoming world champion as the Londoner dismantled Chudinov in round six to be crowned as WBA ‘Super’ world champion.
And Kalle has insisted the number one seed is the man to beat and should be considered as the front-runner.
“The journey with George has been a great one. George is a great guy, with a great family around him and a great team and sometimes that’s the key to success.
“He’s got a lovely wife, he’s a proud father but he’s grounded. He’s got a spring in his step, he’s now the super champion. People talk about this fight or that fight but sorry, he’s the man to beat it’s as simple as that.
“That will be the case in this tournament, he’s become the hunter to the hunted overnight,” he concluded.
Groves will make the first defence of his title on ITV box-office against fellow Brit Jamie Cox at Wembley Arena on October 14.
