Andrew Selby faces Mexican test on Oct 7

Barry’s highly-rated flyweight contender Andrew Selby (9-0-0 – 5KOs) will headline against Mexico’s hard-hitting Maximino Flores (23-3-1 – 16KOs) in a WBC World Flyweight eliminator on Saturday October 7 at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London.

The title-chasing pair will square off at the top of an action-packed bill, which will be shown live on Channel 5 and in association with Maxi-Nutrition.

Also on a big night of boxing at the famous East London venue is a terrific matchup between unbeaten British Cruiserweights Robin Dupre (12-0-0) and Luke ‘The Duke’ Watkins (11-0-0) – who will both have the opportunity to win the vacant Commonwealth Cruiserweight title.

Asinia Byfield (13-1-0) returns to action on the bill after sensationally stopping domestic rival and fellow prospect Sammy McNess at the Copper Box Arena in July, as he defends his BBBofC Southern Area Super Welterweight title against Max Wicks (6-1-1), subject to board approval.

Following a flawless start to her professional boxing career, Chantelle Cameron (2-0-0) will be looking to make it three wins from three on the bill – having already dazzled under the lights in her two previous professional outings. Chantelle will be in a televised eight round contest, as she continues to push towards her lofty world-level ambitions.

ANDREW SELBY: “This is another step closer to my dream of winning a world title. Maximino Flores is another strong test for me but these are the fights I need to prove myself ready for that World title shot. Training has been going well alongside my brother Lee at Tony Borg’s gym and I can’t wait to headline back on Channel 5. I’m looking forward to boxing for the first time as a pro at the famous York Hall. The venue was good to me as an amateur in the World Series of Boxing where I won all of my four fights over Ireland’s Michael Conlan plus elite boxers from Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Mexico. That experience will ensure I’m ready to put on a show come October 7th.”

MAXIMINO FLORES: “October 7th can’t come soon enough for me. I know the UK boxing fans will see me as the underdog, but this is my time. Selby showed in his last fight that he can be caught, and with my power, I feel confident I can cause an upset and go on to win that world title.”

ROBIN DUPRE: “This is a massive opportunity for me to claim the Commonwealth title. I’d like to thank Cyclone Promotions and my manager Mickey Helliet for getting me this title shot. I am ready to win this belt in style in front of my passionate fans on October 7th.”

LUKE WATKINS: “I am delighted to be fighting for the Commonwealth title on this big show. I look forward to ending the year as the Irish and newly crowned Commonwealth champion. Timing is very important in life and this has come at the perfect time.”

CHANTELLE CAMERON: “I’m really looking forward to fight night already. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes, and I can’t wait to put on a show for everyone in York Hall and all of those watching on Channel 5. It’s great to be fighting a bit closer to home, and I’m grateful for all of my supporters travelling down from Northampton for this one!”

ASINIA BYFIELD: “I feel like I’m starting to show people what I can do in this game. I got rid of McNess in style in my last fight and I’m going to beat this next guy up. I have been sparring at Mayweather’s gym in Las Vegas against fighters like Gervonta Davis, and they all know what I’m about. Enjoy the show on October 7th.”

BARRY MCGUIGAN: “This should be a cracker of a night for the boxing fans. Not only do we have a terrific world title eliminator on offer, but also a great Commonwealth Cruiserweight title fight between two undefeated prospects, as well as some other top domestic matchups too. I’m also very excited for the fans to get another look at Chantelle Cameron. She’s been looking brilliant in the gym, and she may well steal the show on October 7th!”
