Smithy's TGW 31/08/2017

TWO LOCAL DERBY’S HEADLINE TGW & SMITHY BRINGS Super Sunday Series 1 on September 17 at Smithy’s TGW Gym.

Promoter Brendon Smith has made the exciting announcement Chris Brackin will take on Kyle Teer in a four round bout and Joel Stower will face Olef Olsen in a three rounder.

Brackin vs Teer has been dubbed the Battle of the South. Brackin is originally from Stanthorpe while Teer resides in Warwick. Teer has established a reputation as an iron man of 19 professional bouts, he’s been involved in some classic battles that have earned him honours such as Fox Sports round of the year and he’s fought twice for a Queensland title.

On the other hand Chris Brackin is a young star on the rise who after a great amateur career started his pro career with a bang scoring a stunning first round knock out win over Chris Oliver in July.

“This is a great local derby,” Promoter Brendon Smith said.

“Old lion vs young lion, youth vs experience, Stanthorpe vs Warwick.

“It will be an action packed fight, Chris only knows one way and that’s to come forward, Kyle has proven himself to excel in these type of fights.

“It has the potential to bring the house down.

“It’s a real test for Chris Brackin who’s only had one pro fight which only went one round.

“Kyle Teer has been the distance with the likes of OPBF champion Jack Brubaker and holds a victory over two time Australian title holder Will Young.

“It’s a great match up and another great addition to history of legendary Warwick vs Stanthorpe showdowns. “

The other pro bout announced is the heavyweight showdown between Joel Stower from Smithy’s TGW Gym and Olaf Olsen from Trading Blows Gym.

It’s a much anticipated re-match between the pair who first locked horns on the 13th of May last year with Stower recording a TKO victory. They were originally due to face off for the rematch late year but a hand injury that required surgery kept Stower out of action.

“This one has been brewing for sometime,” Smith said.

“Ollie has been keen on a re-match ever since the first fight and Joel has been willing to oblige but injury has resulted in the delay.

“Now Ollie has his shot at redemption.

“Joel is equally keen to get back into the ring after the injury lay off and prove the first win was no fluke.

“The first fight was a great match up and both boys have wanted this fight for a while so there will be plenty to fight for.

“Over three rounds, it will be all action.”

The first Barbarian Viking Cup will also take place on the card. It’s a 7 person teams event for corporate fighters, the two teams being Team Barbarian and Team Viking. Team Barbarian headed by Corban The Barbarian Kanoveilomani and Team Viking headed by Steven ‘The Viking’ Spark.

Seven corporate fighters make up each team, they’re currently in week three of their six week training camp. The team that wins the most fights on the day will be awarded the inaugural Barbarian Viking Cup.

“This is a great concept and a just reward and opportunity for all our leading businesses to compete in a training camp and fight,” Brendon Smith said.

“We have the two best young coaches in the country for them to work with in Steven Spark and Corban Kanoveilomani.

“We have a mix of tradies, office workers, hair dressers, all ages and different back grounds.

“The team spirit among the amongst the teams in the gym has been amazing.

“There is also a lot of talent in the teams.

“People will see some real skills when they watch the Barbarian Viking Cup bouts on the day.”

The card will also feature an amateur component.

“All fights will be pre-matched and feature our up and coming talent.

“It’s through the amateurs we grow the stars of the future.

“Brent Rice fought on our cards as an amateur – he’s now am undefeated Australian champion in the pros.

“Steven Spark fought as an amateur on cards like this and is now a Queensland champion in the pro’s.

“Gavan Hornery and Chris Brackin are another two names who made the transition.

“Our next wave is coming through so this is their chance to follow in the foot steps and leave their own mark.”
