Liam Smith and Liam Williams will cross swords again as they meet in Newcastle for their hotly anticipated rematch.
The pair will reignite their bad blood after a controversial decision gave ‘Beefy’ the win after the Welshmen was withdrawn at the start of the tenth round.
One person who is adamant of the same result is brother, Callum Smith.
“I think it’ll be the same result but no controversy this time I believe. It was a close fight, there wasn’t much in it on the scorecards, it wasn’t one sided and Williams was tired as it was going towards the end,” Smith exclusively told World Boxing News.
“I just don’t see Williams getting any better, my Liam can be a lot better and it’ll be a different fight. We’ll know by October but we’re very confident Liam will come out with the win,” he added.
The fight will be promoted by Frank Warren and the winner has the chance to go on and fight for the WBO light-middleweight world title.
The current WBO world champion is Miguel Cotto as he defeated Japan’s Yoshihiro Kamegai.
The fight between Smith and Williams ended due to a clash of heads which resulted in Williams having plastic surgery straight after the fight.
Callum believes his elder brother would have won the fight despite the premature ending and is predicating he’ll go on to face Cotto in attempt to reign supreme once again.
“I felt it was his part of the fight, it was one of them if the fight wasn’t stopped.
“Liam would have stopped him or won on points. We’re in for a good one, the styles gel well but we’ll see a better Liam Smith this time,” he concluded.
