Hollywood star Dolph Lundgren is whipping himself back into shape to reprise his role as Ivan Drago in the forthcoming ‘Creed 2’ movie.
Confirmed by Sylvester Stallone on the back of the success of ‘Creed’ in 2015, the sequel to Ryan Coogler’s much-praised film is due for release next year.
Top of the bill from the original, Stallone and co-star Michael B. Jordan, who played Apollo Creed’s son Adonis, have both signed on and previously it was only rumored Lundgren was on board.
The Swedish actor’s latest social media post seems to confirm he will indeed be part of the ensemble and bring one of the most iconic ‘Rocky’ characters back into the franchise.
Back in 1985, struggling Lundgren was plucked from obscurity by Stallone to feature in ‘Rocky IV’ widely regarded as one of the best movies from the Balboa chronic.
IVAN DRAGO
Playing the steroid-infused Russian Drago, who kills Apollo in an exhibition match before losing to Balboa, Lundgren was able to forge his own acting career on the back of the movie.
Following a long break from major productions, the 59-year-old returned to the silver screen alongside Stallone for ‘The Expendables’ and is once again landing solid roles from his L.A base.
‘Rocky’ fans can now tentatively look forward to the return of the man who uttered the immortal phrase, ‘if he dies, he dies’ as Apollo crumpled in a heap in Balboa’s arms.
