Lucas Browne back in WBC title contention, returns to Top 15

The 38 year-old made a successful return to the ring in June when stopping journeyman Matthew Greer in two rounds, a performance which was enough to seal a Top 15 place with the WBC.

‘Big Daddy’ had previously been riding high in the WBC list before a failure in the Clean Boxing Program lead to a short exile.

Browne remains undefeated as he trains for a second comeback fight, having told WBN he’s hopeful he can be pushing for ratings with all the major organisations by next month.

Manager Matt Clark was a pleased when commenting on the WBC’s recent endorsement of Browne.

“He’s back in the WBC ratings which we are happy about. He’s undefeated and we are looking to climb back to the top. Anyone above him is a target,” Clark exclusively told World Boxing News.

“Lucas is currently over here in the beautiful US Virgin Islands where he’s been sparring with 2016 Olympian Clayton “Mr 340” Laurent Jr.

“Clayton turns pro this weekend and is the son of the legendary Julian Jackson,” he added.

A look at the current standings see the likes of Dillian Whyte, Dereck Chisora and Dominic Breazeale above Browne, all of whom have been targets for the one-time WBA title holder in the past.

One more warm-up fight could be on the cards before Browne tackles any of those rated ahead of him as dates in the fall are contemplated by Clark and his team.
