Floyd Mayweather: I’ll be wearing 8oz gloves to fight Conor McGregor

The pair had initially put pen to paper for a boxing match in the bigger gloves, although Mayweather stated on the World Press Tour he’d be willing to drop down the two ounces.

McGregor was sceptical Mayweather would follow through with this statement as they traded barbs on stage but the latter has now revealed he’ll be trading leather in 8oz gloves on August 26.

“Don’t believe what you hear in the media. Don’t believe what you hear on blog sites. If it’s not coming directly from me, then it’s not true,” said Mayweather.

“I’m telling McGregor, ‘Let’s fight in 8oz gloves.’ McGregor can fight in any brand he prefers or chooses. I’ll be wearing 8 oz Grant gloves.

“Whatever advantage McGregor needs to feel more comfortable in the ring, I’m willing to accommodate. Let’s give the boxing and MMA fans what they want to see,” he added.

A bold move from Mayweather, who is already being back by some high profile names in the sport to score a first bonafide knockout in eight years against McGregor.

‘The Notorious’ usually dons 4 ounce gloves when taking to the octagon in the UFC and should be happier to have less padding between his fists and Mayweather’s face.

McGregor is confident he ‘will sleep Mayweather’ and ‘bounce his head offf the canvas’ later this month, whilst Mayweather is aiming to overthrow Rocky Marciano’s 49-0 record and retire for good on the magical 50 mark.
