Conflicting reports on Frampton’s next opponent: Gutierrez or Selby

Frampton firstly failed weight, losing any chance of claiming a WBC title shot against Gary Russell Jr., before the bout was completely scrapped hours later when Gutierrez slipped in the shower and injured himself.

Despite the Gutierrez disappointment, the Mexican is still favoured to oppose Frampton once recovered, although Selby has already expressed his interest in a battle with the Belfast man.

On who may be next for ‘The Jackal’, Betway’s Alan Alger said: “Carl Frampton fans have been left wondering what’s next for The Jackal after a bizarre 24 hours which saw the Irishman miss weight and then have his fight cancelled due to injuries suffered by Andres Gutierrez.

“Frampton is 2/5 to reschedule his fight with the Mexican next, although a world title dust-up with IBF World Featherweight champion Lee Selby could turn the Irishman’s head at 5/2.

“Meanwhile, it seems an unlikely Frampton will step into the ring with Leo Santa Cruz for a trilogy fight next and that bout is priced at 8/1.”

The Selby clash was top of most people’s list before Frampton conifrmed his homecoming with Gutierrez and the next few weeks seem likely to be a critical time for who may be next for the two-weight world title holder.

Carl Frampton next fight odds:

Andres Gutierrez

2/5

Lee Selby

5/2

Leo Santa Cruz

8/1
