Katie Taylor scores three-round retirement on US debut

Using her exceptional combinations, speed and footwork, Taylor ground Clarkson down by stepping up the pace in each round.

Following some hard head shots in the third session, Clarkson’s corner pulled her out to hand Taylor a sixth triumph in the paid ranks.

Earlier, compatriot Noel Murphy made it to 11-0 with a unanimous decision over fellow-undefeated welterweight prospect Julio Cesar Sanchez.

The second Showtime prelim saw Jarrell Miller dominate Gerald Washington to eventually force a stoppage at the end of the 8th round.

Washington’s tactics, somewhat in the style of Muhammad Ali’s rope-a-dope, failed miserably as Miller didn’t tire in the second half of the fight.

Miller, who did slow down a little after six, continued to unload in every round until referee Gary Rosato stepped in between sessions.

‘Big Baby’ remains undefeated on 19-0-1 and pushes towards a shot at the world title in 2018.

In an IBF super-flyweight title eliminator, Rau’shee Warren defeated McJoe Arroyo in a battle of two former world champions.

Warren was clearly the superior fighter of the two but couldn’t get Arroyo in enough trouble to get him out of there.

In the end, judges carded convincingly in favor of the American with scores of 118-110 and 117-111 (twice).

Other results saw Kenny Robles shocked by Dan Murray and Desmond Jarman out-point Darnell Pettis over four.
