At the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York tonight, Argentine Jorge Sebastian Heiland and American Jermall Charlo fight in a World Boxing Council elimination bout in the middleweight division.
It’ll be televised by Showtime and will be part of the card starring former champion Adrien Broner (33-2, 24 KO’s) and WBC lightweight champion Mikey Garcia (36-0, 30 KO’s).
The winner of Charlo Vs Heiland will become the mandatory challenger for the famous Green and Gold WBC belt that will defended by Gennady Golovkin against Mexican Saul Alvarez on September 16 in Las Vegas.
Charlo (25-0, 19 KO), 27, is the twin brother of current WBC super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo. He enthused: “I’ve been training since the end of January for this fight. Now that I have climbed a division I feel stronger, smarter and in general, I feel better.” Heiland is a tough fighter and I know he will be a good opponent.”
Heiland (29-4-2, 16 KO), a 30 year old southpaw from Argentina, arrives with eight straight wins. He commented: “I’m excited to be facing a great fighter, namely Jermall Charlo.
“I’ve waited a long time for an opportunity like this, so I’m going to give it my all. I promise that this fight will be a total war because my career and my future are at stake.”
