Watch: Hearn meets with Duco, eyes Parker v Whyte or Bellew before Joshua in 2018

Joshua v Parker 10/07/2017

Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn held a meeting with Joseph Parker’s handlers in London this week to discuss a potential heavyweight unification with Anthony Joshua in 2018.

Hearn hopes to pit Joshua, holder of the WBA, IBO and IBF versions, against WBO belt holder Parker in the summer of next year once both take care of their mandatory bouts.

Parker is slated to face Hughie Fury on September 23, whilst Joshua has either a rematch with Wladimir Klitschko or an IBF stipulation to Kubrat Pulev in the coming months.

After those fights are behind the respective champions, Hearn wants an agreement in place for the four-belt battle.

“From an Anthony Joshua promoter’s point of view, we’ve got the Wladimir Klitschko fight, we’ve also got a mandatory with Pulev but we want Parker spring/summer of next year. We want to try and add another belt to the bow,” said Hearn.

“I like David Higgins. I think Duco have a good opportunity in fighting Hughie Fury. It’s a fight, I think if it happens, they should win and then I would stay here to be honest with you.

“I would try and knock off all the guys that would make my profile so significant that the Anthony Joshua fight becomes a huge UK and worldwide event.

“Certainly victories over Hughie Fury and Tony Bellew or Dillian Whyte would put Joseph in a brilliant position to earn a lot, a lot of money in the Anthony Joshua fight and put him in a position where that fight is a necessity rather than a potential fight.”

Duco’s David Higgins added: “We talked about if we get past Fury, we’re looking to, as potential opponents Dillian Whyte, Tony Bellew and Anthony Joshua and even further out Joshua.

“In boxing what makes dollars, makes sense and he said he would write to us this week with solid offers.”

Parker’s trainer Kevin Barry is also keen to see his man fight on British shores.

“Eddie Hearn is the biggest powerbroker in boxing at the moment, he’s a guy whose doing some tremendous business here in the UK and around the world at the moment and somebody who I’m sure that David Higgins could gel and work very well with,” said Barry.
