He’s already the most successful boxer in Singapore’s history, but Muhamad Ridhwan Bin Ahmad will be looking to go one better in October when he seeks to add the International Boxing Organization™ (IBO) Intercontinental title to the Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) World Super Featherweight title he claimed earlier this year.
Known as ‘The Chosen Wan’ in boxing circles, Ridhwan versus Sibiya will be top billing on a star-studded 8-fight card at The Roar of Singapore III, which will be staged at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre on Friday, 20th October 2017.
Promoted by Ringstar Management, organisers expect to announce no less than four IBO title fights on the card, making The Roar of Singapore III the biggest IBO event to be staged in Asia. With current world champions Anthony Joshua (Heavy-weight), and Chris Eubank Jnr (Super-middleweight), as well as former world champions Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather among its ranks, the IBO sanctioning body is not short when it comes to star-power.
As an amateur, Ridhwan came close to the top on three occasions, winning bronze in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games. Since turning professional in early 2016, the 30-year-old has brushed aside every opponent, stopping six of seven inside the distance, and winning the World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia Super Featherweight title with a stunning second round knockout of former Indonesian champion, Waldo Sabu on April 8, 2017.
After a successful knockout of his Tanzanian opponent Fadhili Majiha in The Roar of Singapore II in May this year, Ridhwan became Singapore’s very first world boxing champion. His professional career record consists of 8 bouts, 8 victories, and 7 knockouts.
He’ll be up against the vastly more experienced South African Koos Sibiya, a.k.a. ‘The Great Warrior’ whose record boasts 33 bouts, 20 victories, 10 defeats and 3 knockouts – a record that has seen him claim current WBF, WBU, and WBO Pan African Champion titles.
Looking ahead to the duel, Ridhwan said:
“It should be a great fight. I’ve had a good run since turning pro last year but I’m always learning and am taking it one step at a time. The Sibiya fight is the next challenge for me, which I’m definitely relishing. I know I can go a long way in this sport and have signed on with Ringstar, who I believe can take me to the next level. I’m looking forward to it.”
“I am the Great Warrior and Ridhwan doesn’t have the skill to beat me. On October 20th in Singapore, I will become the IBO Intercontinental Champion and will end The Chosen Wan and his unbeaten run. Bring it on.”
The co-main card fight will see Sirimongkhon Iamthuam – a.k.a. ‘Sing Wang Cha’ – of Thailand Challenge for the IBO Asia-Pacific Super-welterweight title against Tommy ‘The Titan’ Browne of Australia in what is set to be a fascinating duel between the 39-year-old Thai veteran (95 bouts, 92 victories, 3 defeats, 57 knockouts) and New South Wales challenger (42 bouts, 34 victories, 6 defeats, 2 draws, 13 Knockouts).
With eight professional fights, including four championship fights for IBO titles on the card and a packed entertainment line-up, the show is expected to be another sell-out for Singapore-based Ringstar Management. And with a television footprint and Live streaming taking the fight-card into over one-hundred million homes across Asia-Pacific, The Roar of Singapore series is fast establishing Singapore as a globally recognized fight destination.
CEO and Founder of Ringstar Management, Scott Patrick Farrell said:
“We’re really looking forward to the third installment of The Roar of Singapore. Ridhwan is already a champion boxer and has the potential to go a lot further. He’s conquered Asia in his division and has now set his sights set on the World! It’ll be a big test for him against a more experienced fighter and the current no. 1 ranked super featherweight boxer in Africa and no. 70 in the world.”
“We established Ringstar Management in 2016 with an objective of fostering the boxing culture here in Singapore and bringing some world-class fights to the Lion City. The third edition of The Roar of Singapore will do exactly that. It will be a fantastic spectacle for fans here and around the world.”
Vice President of the International Boxing Orginisation (IBO), Steve Scott, added:
“The Roar of Singapore III is going to set new standards for boxing fights in Asia. The Ridhwan-Sibiya title fight is going to be huge and there is no question that it will have the eyes of the boxing world on it. Singapore you’re in for a real treat.”
“We extend our thanks to Ringstar Management for making the fight possible. They continue to set new standards for boxing in South East Asia and we look forward to working closely with them in the months ahead.”
Sanctioned by the International Boxing Organization (IBO), The Roar of Singapore III will take place on Friday, 20th October 2017 at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre.
