The draw for the forthcoming World Boxing Super Series means George Groves and Chris Eubank Jr. could meet in a massive all-UK unification contest early next year.
Groves, who was the number one seed, chose to face off against Jamie Cox this autumn, whilst third seed Eubank Jr. was pitted against Avni Yildrim thanks to his father Chris Sr.
The way the format of the eight-man tournament is laid out, Groves and Eubank Jr. will collide in January or February of 2018 provided both come through their respective quarter-finals.
Eubank still has to come through former world champion Arthur Abraham next weekend to officially book his place opposite Yildrim and take his IBO title into the competition.
In another potential semi-final, Callum Smith would face Robert Brant after the unseeded American was drawn to battle veteran Juergen Braehmer.
Brant would be favoured to overcome the aging German, who has decided to move back down to 168 pounds in the twilight of his career.
The victors will then fight it out for the coveted Muhammad Ali Trophy in the spring.
WBSS Draw format:
Fight 1 v Fight 3 in first semi-final
Fight 2 v Fight 4 in second semi-final
At cruiserweight, Oleksandr Usyk could meet Mairis Breidis in a WBO/WBC uniifcation in semi-final one, whilst Murat Gassiev would battle Yunier Dorticos if the bookmakers odds are to be taken as gospel.
Dates and venues are currently being negotiated following the draft procedure in Monaco on Saturday night and will be announced at the earliest convenience.
The quarter-finals will be held in September and October, the semi-finals in January and February and the finals in May in top venues around the globe.
