Make a War: Ricky Burns v Anthony Crolla

First up is a potential British dust-up between ex-world rulers Ricky Burns and Anthony Crolla.

As Burns and Crolla both aim to make a big comeback from world title losses recently, pitting the Matchroom-promoted fighters together really seems a no-brainer for promoter Eddie Hearn.

Burns, Scotland’s first three-weight world champion, lost out to Julius Indongo in a unification last April, whilst Crolla went down to back-to-back defeats against pound for pound star Jorge Linares.

With 34 year-old Burns likely to remain at 140 pounds until the end of his career, Crolla, who is four years his junior, is eyeing another move up in weight from his position at lightweight.

Both are signed to the Sky Sports stable and desperate to stay in the championship picture, therefore it seems a formality the pair of warhorses will collide somewhere down the line.

Well, there’s no time like the present, and hopefully once Hearn is able to take some time to reflect on another busy and successful season in August, Burns v Crolla will be high on his list of priorities for the UK punters.

The styles of Burns and Crolla are destined to gel, making for a fan-friendly fight that could catapult either onto another shot at a recognized belt should the potential contest make it over the line in the coming months.

Here’s hoping it does.
