Shocker: Bookies favor McGregor more than Cotto, Maidana and Guerrero to defeat Mayweather

Mayweather v McGregor 04/07/2017

Irish UFC star Conor McGregor is a stunning price of -550 to take Floyd Mayweather’s undefeated record when the pair collide on August 26 in Las Vegas.

Considering ‘The Notorious’ has never laced up a boxing glove in his pro fighting career, the Mayweather McGregor betting layout of former opponents odds makes for some eye-popping reading.

Looking at the list of Mayweather foes since 2005 below, the prices reveal ex-world champions have been favoured less than McGregor when they opposed the ‘Money’ man respectively in the past.

The likes of Marcos Maidana at -900 and -600 for his two fights with Mayweather in 2014, Robert Guerrero in 2013, plus Puerto Rican legend Miguel Cotto have all been longer priced than McGregor – which is a shocking fact in reality.

Most of the generosity shown towards McGregor could well be more towards Mayweather’s age rather than the dangers the younger fighter poses, although the bookmakers have never been ones to take chances and won’t be starting now.

Judging by some of the social media banter towards the fight, you’d think McGregor was fighting with two arms behind his back as plenty of high-profile boxing personnel believe Mayweather won’t take a single punch in the bout.

In the octagon, McGregor has proven to be a solid force despite suffering losses during his career, but does possess the same ‘love him or loath him’ persona as Mayweather, which means a host of PPV buyers will be tuning in to see one of the fighters lose.

McGregor has the chance to pull off one of the biggest upsets the sport has ever seen as amazingly, the former two-weight UFC title holder makes his professional debut in the boxing capital of the world.
