Galahad: Beat Cayetano and it’s on to a world title

Unbeaten Sheffield star Kid Galahad will face highly respected Mexican Jose Cateyano for the IBF Inter-Continental Featherweight title in London on July 15th.

Kid Galahad, real name Barry Awad, has racked up 22 straight wins in a glittering career and is on the verge of a world title shot if he can negotiate a way past Cateyano, who has replaced Dennis Ceylan.

The 30-year-old, nicknamed El Tigre, went the distance with Leo Santa Cruz in 2015 in Las Vegas and lost on a late stoppage to Scott Quigg last year, but can boast plenty of wins over world class opponents.

Kid Galahad says his aim is to dominate Cateyano and finish off his opponent in style, at The SSE Arena, Wembley.

He said: “Cateyano represents a significant step forward for me because this is a kid who has been in there with the very best, such as Leo Santa Cruz and never taken a step forward. I’m a far better boxer than Scott Quigg and I’ll underline that when I destroy Cateyano much quicker and much more impressively than he managed.

“Cateyano has only been stopped once and is a terrific fighter who I have a lot of respect for. Anyone who can go the distance with Santa Cruz is a tough opponent. But I belong to a different class and I know I’m within touching distance of a world title crown. I’ll beat Cateyano and then it is onwards and upwards to that world title shot.”

Cateyano has 21 pro wins to his name and has only been halted once, when losing to Quigg in the ninth round of their contest in Manchester six months ago.

Galahad said: “Cateyano is a classy fighter but what it means is I can show just the world just how good I am by stopping him and stopping him in style.”

Kid Galahad versus Jose Cateyano is part of an outstanding evening of boxing, live and exclusive on ITV Box Office, promoted by Poxon Sports, in association with Team Sauerland.

IBO World Super Middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jnr takes on Arthur Abraham, while Lee Selby tackles Jonathan Barros in the third defence of his IBF World Featherweight crown. Also on the bill is unbeaten Robbie Davies Jnr against Michal Syrowatka and Martin Ward versus Anthony Cacace.
