World Boxing News will be scoring live on site tonight as Andre Ward defends his clutch of world light-heavyweight titles against arch-rival Sergey Kovalev at the Mandalay Bay on the Las Vegas strip in Nevada.
The pair rematch on the back of a tight affair last November, ending with Ward squeezing a decision to take Kovalev’s belts and undefeated streak.
Amidst rumours he was considering retirement, Ward steps between the rops in a bid to prove the initial victory was justified following calls of controversy from Kovalev and sections of the boxing fraternity.
Whoever comes out on top will be recognised as the top Pound for Pound fighter in the world, that is until Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez collide in September.
Also on the card, top boxing star Guillermo Rigondeaux puts his WBA super-bantamweight crown on the line against mandatory challenger Moises Flores.
Prior to the main attraction, the evening begins in Wetzlar, Germany as Tyron Zeuge faces Paul Smith Jnr. in a defence of his WBA ‘regular’ super-middleweight title.
A win for Zeuge could then mean a spot in the World Boxing Super Series later this year, where Zeuge and ‘super’ champion George Groves could meet to rightly drop the number of WBA belts in the division to one.
