WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker has called a press conference for Wednesday at 2pm (New Zealand time) where the fighter will reveal his next opponent.
Parker was due to battle Hughie Fury in a mandatory defense of his belt early next month, although the Briton pulled out with an injury this week leaving the title holder in search of a new foe.
The 27 year-old’s team at Duco Boxing have now informed WBN their search has been successful and they intend to make the announcement public ahead of the Auckland encounter.
Plenty of potential suitors had been in contact with Parker since Fury dropped out of the running, with even Tyson Fury jokingly offering to step in at 26 stone and take the fight.
WBN now understands Razvan Cojanu has stepped into the breach ahead of the likes of American Dominic Breazeale, Andriy Rudenko, Andrey Fedosov, Agit Kabayel and Kyotaro Fujimoto, all of whom are ranked above the 30 year-old challenger.
Cojanu, who is based in California, has won 16 of 18 bouts so far, losing his debut and a more recent encounter with unheralded southpaw Donovan Dennis.
Despite not being the highest ranked Romanian in the world, Cojanu gets his chance by default and will be a massive underdog to make any sort of impression against Parker.
