The highly-anticipated fight between the two Liam’s lived up to the hype after nine brutal rounds of boxing.

Liam Williams’ corner threw the towel in after the end of round nine due to a bad cut over the eyelid.

The Welshmen started the quicker out of the two, controlling the early battle with slick combinations and impressive footwork.

After three rounds, Smith had a cut to the side of his eye which came under question half way through round seven when the doctor intervened to check if he could continue the fight.

Despite Smith gaining momentum, the concern was that his corner would have to pull him out.

Trainer Joe Gallagher was enraged with disbelief during the fight as Williams continued to grab Smith and slow down the fight.

‘Beefy’ Smith battled back in the mid-rounds though, with damaging shots to the face and body in the sixth. The remaining rounds left the crowd on their toes with excitement as both traded shots to each other.

The fight took yet another twist with the damage being done in the eighth. It looked likely that Smith was close to ending the fight before the bell saved Williams.

Hats off to both men who put on an exhilarating fight with blood, sweat and tears left in the ring.

Nicola Adams’ first fight as a professional under Frank Warren began with a fairy-tale start as she defeated Virginia Noemi Carcamo on points.

She didn’t have it all her way though, with the South American proving a stern and durable test for four rounds.

However, the double Olympic Gold Medallist used her experience to edge out the stubborn Argentine to win on points.

The Yorkshire lass has teamed up with American superstar Virgil Hunter and has been training in the States with the likes of Amir Khan around in the gym.

The Leeds boxer will be fighting next on the Josh Warrington undercard next month at the First Direct Arena.
