Light-heavyweight ruler and pound for pound king Andre Ward will meet Sergey Kovalev in a highly-anticipated rematch on June 17, it has been confirmed to WBN.
Their first meeting in November ended controversially on the scorecards when Ward took Kovalev’s WBO, IBF and WBA belts before subsequently considering an early retirement.
Much debating has ended with Ward deciding the pair would meet again this summer, with a date being confirmed by the ‘S.O.G’ and his team via social media on Tuesday.
Kovalev was always keen to regain his position as the number one at 175 pounds and now gets the chance at a venue said to be rubberstamped and thought to be in Las Vegas.
Ward v Kovalev will once again be a P4P and PPV affair following on from their meeting in the boxing capital of the world five months ago.
On the back of the entertaining twelve-round battle, Ward overtook Roman Gonzalez at the summit of the sport, although revenge for Kovalev would surely mean the Russian puncher overhauls the talented Olympic gold medallist.
It’s all set-up for a spectacular summer showdown, with further details and undercard news to follow in the coming days and weeks.
HBO Pay-Per-View will once again screen what is currently the top saga in the sport.
