Remembering Ricardo ‘Pelon’ Dominguez

Paul Landeros 23/03/2017

In 2009, “TV Azteca” launched a major project with the WBC. 16 young boxers would clash and the winner would fight for the world title.

Ricardo “Pelon” Dominguez won the tournament and the love of an entire nation with his humility and passion.

Although he lost against the champion Humberto “Zorrita” Soto, he fought toe to toe with him.

Some years later, Dominguez was diagnosed with cancer. Once again, he faced this challenge without fear and with a smile on his face.

“I see it as one more fight, I’m going to chemotherapy thinking that I’m going to defeat this”

After years of treatment and struggle, Ricardo would lose the battle. However, he taught us an invaluable lesson.

Greatness lies in how we face our obstacles, no matter how big or tough they might be. May you rest in eternal peace, dear champ!
