Welterweight champion Kell Brook went face-to-face with the opponent many believe will be his toughest yet at 147 pounds as ‘The Special One’ eyeballed mandatory challenger Errol Spence on Wednesday.
Brook, who engaged in a five-round gunfight with Gennady Golovkin when losing for the first time in his career at the higher middleweight limit, returns to his usual weight despite being heavily linked to a move north to 154 pounds.
Brammall Lane, home of Sheffield United Football Club will be the venue on May 27, as Brook fulfills a lifelong dream to headline at the stadium in what will be the third defence of his IBF title.
The pair wasted no time getting verbal as the frustrations of the fight being dragged out for almost a year were evident for both men.
Challenger Spence, who has progressed quickly through the 147 pound ratings, is touted as the next big thing at welterweight having defeated the likes of Samuel Vargas, Chris Van Heerden, Chris Algieri and Leonard Bundu with relative ease to reach an impressive 21-0 tally.
