World Boxing News will be scoring live on site tonight as Gennady Golovkin defends his position as the world middleweight king against Danny Jacobs at the famous Madison Square Garden.
Golovkin is keen to clean up completely at the 160 pound limit before moving up to super-middleweight and needs to defeat Jacobs, Billy Joe Saunders and Canelo Alvarez in order to do so.
The hard-punching Kazakh holds an amazing 90 plus percent knockout ratio to his credit but goes up against another puncher on Saturday night.
Jacobs, who holds the ‘regular’ title going into the match-up, has lost just once in his career many year back opposite Dmitry Pirog.
Since then, and after battling past cancer, Jacobs has gone from strength to strength as a middleweight force.
Also on the bill, Roman Gonzalez puts his WBC super-flyweight belt on the line against Srikaset Sor Rungvisai in the co-feature contest.
Gonzalez is inching towards Floyd Mayweather and Rocky Marciano’s record of 49-0 and can move just two wins away with victory on HBO PPV.
Srikaset gets his chance by riding high in the WBC ratings on the back on an unbeaten run stretching back to a loss against Carlos Cuadras.
Ironically, Cuadras is scheduled to participate on the card and face the winner of Gonzalez v Rungvisai later in 2017.
