Adonis Stevenson is required to defend his WBC title against Eleider Alvarez next as the World Boxing Council reveal details of the negotiation period.
Stevenson, who has been calling out Andre Ward for a unification, has to put his belt on the line against the Colombian and has under a month to agree the fight.
“WBC Silver champion Eleider Alvarez dramatically knocked out Lucian Bute defending his Lt. Heavyweight silver championship and confirming his status as mandatory contender,” the WBC told World Boxing News.
“The WBC has ordered the free negotiations period for the mandatory title defense of WBC champion Adonis Stevenson versus mandatory contender Eleider Alvarez and if no agreement is reached a purse offer will be held on Friday March 24, 2017 in Mexico City.”
Alvarez, 32, had impressed through 22 wins as a pro, having defeated the likes of Isaac Chilemba and Robert Berridge on his way to the number one spot with the WBC.
