McGregor is already sanctioned to box in California, although wants to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the boxing capital of the world and would require the NSAC’s authority.
Ongoing litigation, stemming from the non-payment of a previous fine in his UFC days, have so far meant McGregor has not been given the green light, which the NSAC’s Bob Bennett has confirmed is currently being considered.
“Today, mixed martial artist Conor McGregor met with Nevada State Athletic Commission Chairman Anthony A. Marnell III and Executive Director Bob Bennett regarding a possible rehearing of McGregor’s prior order arising out of his conduct during a UFC 202 press conference on August 17, 2016,” the NSAC exclusively told World Boxing News regarding the Valentine’s Day gathering.
“After a very cordial and productive meeting with McGregor, Chairman Marnell agreed to place the request for rehearing on the agenda of the Commission’s March 22, 2017 meeting.
“During the hearing on McGregor’s request, Chairman Marnell and Executive Director Bennett will recommend that the Commission grants a rehearing on the prior order.”
‘The Notorious’ remains in the frame for a massive payday against Mayweather in late 2017 or early 2018 as both fighters are set to be promised nine-figure sums.
Las Vegas will stage the fight once all the red tape has been negotiated, with the world famous MGM Grand and new T-Mobile Arena the preferred venues.
A day of back and forth denials and call-outs has since died down as McGregor and Mayweather attempt to iron out contract problems with the UFC before coming to an expected agreement.
