Promoter Tom Loeffer is expecting another special night when Gennady Golovkin and Roman Gonzalez share a bill once again at Madison Square Garden next month.
Golovkin faces Danny Jacobs, whilst Gonzalez defends his WBC title against Srikaset Rungvisai in bouts that represent mandatory duties for the pair before even bigger encounters are planned for later in 2017.
‘GGG’ is eyeing up Canelo Alvarez, whilst ‘Chocolatito’ could be set for a second helping with rugged Carlos Cuadras, potentially on another shared card against the Mexican stars in September.
“We’re very excited to bring “Chocolatito” back to the ‘Mecca of Boxing’, Madison Square Garden and to have his fight co-featured on this HBO Pay-Per-View,” said Tom Loeffler, Managing Director of K2 Promotions.
“Rungvisai is an excellent fighter and this will be a very tough challenge for Roman in the first defense of his WBC Super Flyweight World Title won in his epic battle with Carlos Cuadras on September 10th which was telecast on HBO from The Fabulous Forum in Los Angeles.
“This will be the fifth time Roman and Gennady have fought on the same telecast, they are truly the best combination in boxing to provide fans the maximum value which is always our aim in these promotions for fans in attendance and watching on HBO Pay-Per-View.”
Both rated in the WBN Pound for Pound Top five, Golovkin and Gonzalez are undefeated in 82 bouts between them with an amazing 71 KO’s to their credit.
Bookies will favour another double stoppage on the night in New York, whilst Jacobs and Rungvisai will be doing their level best to become the first to halt the runs and enhance their own names in the sport.
