Season VII of the World Series of Boxing began in style in Buenos Aires on Friday night, as Argentina Condors faced WSB newcomers Colombia Heroicos at the National Boxing Stadium. Cuba Domadores get title defence up and running in style with 5-0 win over Venezuela Caciques

A carnival atmosphere greeted defending WSB champions Cuba Domadores in Havana on Friday night as the title-holders welcomed Venezuela Caciques for the opening action of Season VII. It was a fitting way to begin the new campaign, with the imperious Domadores continuing where they left off last year with a consummate team display on route to a 5-0 win.

Astana Arlans dig deep to open Season VII with 3-2 win over Patriot Boxing Team in Moscow

Astana Arlans Kazakhstan began their Season VII campaign in determined fashion in Moscow on Saturday night, securing an important away win over their group C rivals, Russia’s renamed Patriot Boxing Team. The tie ebbed and flowed with the two WSB stalwarts chasing victory, and it went right down to the wire as the Heavyweights decided the contest, Anton Pinchuk’s fine display sending the resolute Arlans back to Kazakhstan with the points.

China Dragons leave it late to secure dramatic 3-2 Week 1 win over Uzbek Tigers in Sanya

It was a night to remember for China’s WSB fans on Saturday as their beloved Dragons took up an early position at the top of Group C with a remarkable victory over last year’s Semi-Finalists Uzbek Tigers. The Dragons had a point to prove against the team that beat them home and away last season, and despite going 2-0 down, the hosts came back to wow the crowd with a memorable 3-2 win.

World Series of Boxing (WSB) is a unique team boxing competition and one of the most exciting sports leagues in the world. Beginning in February 2017, Season VII sees 12 teams compete in three regional groups; America, Europe/Africa and Asia, with home and away matches, consisting of five bouts each, between the group rivals.

The top two teams from each group and the two strongest third-placed teams will qualify for the play-offs, which assume the format of four Quarter-Finals, two Semi-Finals and the grand Final in June.

The world’s premier boxing series is a hard-fought competition of unparalleled intensity, speed and power, where boxers compete across five rounds, scored using the 10 Points Must system.

Season VII is set to build on the enormous success of Season VI, and features the return of franchises from France and Italy and the stars of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. WSB boxers accounted for 23 Olympic medals at the Games, including 6 golds, adding an extra dimension of excitement and competition for both the fans and the boxers.
