Mayweather vs McGregor – The Money Fight

Anticipation heightened over the weekend due to an appearance in Manchester by Conor McGregor, quickly followed up by a race to the MGM Grand from Floyd Mayweather.

Taking part in a question and answer session in the north of England, McGregor had plenty to say about a super-fight taking place.

Mayweather heard McGregor before making an impromptu arrangement with US network Showtime to get sudden airtime at Carl Frampton v Leo Santa Cruz II.

Among the statements made by McGregor was a hopefulness the Irishman could land a similar deal to Manny Pacquiao, as the Filipino made over $80 million for fighting Floyd back in May 2015.

“I’m going to go to Las Vegas and get my boxing license. Then we’ll see where the f*** Floyd’s at. I have my eyes on one thing, and that’s Floyd Mayweather,” McGregor said.

“That fight is more than being explored. That fight has been in the works for a while now. Why conquer one world when you can conquer two worlds?

“We’ll figure it out the same way he and Manny figured it out,” he added.

Speaking to Showtime’s Jim Gray, Mayweather responded: “As I said before, he’s a tough competitor. He has proved throughout the years in the UFC that he can fight standing up. We’ll have to see what the future holds.

“We know I’m the A side. It shows throughout the years (with) so many record-breaking numbers that we have done, me and my team. Hopefully, we can make the fight happen.

“Can we make this fight happen? Absolutely. That’s what everyone wants to see. Of course, Showtime is the biggest and best in the business. So with Showtime PPV, hopefully, we can make it happen.”

Mayweather also said they would be at 147 or 150 pounds if they fought.

“I truly believe the fans want this fight,” he continued. “The fans have been asking for this fight. It’s all about entertainment.

“He’s very entertaining. He’s very outspoken like myself, so let’s give the fans what they want to see.”

Money fight

The fight is said to be worth at least half a billion dollars. It has moved significantly closer to coming together as Mayweather and McGregor attempt to construct the biggest Pay-Per-View event of all time.

‘MayPac’ took 4.4m buys when Mayweather defeated Pacquiao a year and a half ago. But with McGregor being in his prime and from another code entirely, it is hoped that will be enough of a carrot for the fans to fork out their cash and break the record.
